Great is great and bad is bad but what about in the middle? The ones with great properties but lack somewhat in others, that have a great story but lack rhythm, or that have great rhythm but lack strong characters. A great books have many components that each reader put their preferences on. It’s subjective.

Where do you write? A desk most likely. I wrote my first book Knock Out on my bed. I tried writing at a desk but it felt to businesslike and I lost the creativity. Just goes to show location matters.

Depending on how you publish, the back of your book will be done differently. My publisher had a service which created it for me. I filled out a form saying the gist of the book, sent it in, they made a mock up, I edited then it was made. Other places may want you to create it all yourself or they could do the whole process for you. Whichever way you go, the final result is up for you to okay.

Writing should be fun! Keep it that way. It can be easy to get engulfed in the pressure of writing something good for the masses, sells well, and a great read, but that’s not the main reason why you started writing in the first place. I’ve found that it makes writing harder to do. The creativity feels harder to muster. Writing should be fun first and foremost.

The second tool I use is their website. Most reviewers have a website or Instagram. With a website I see how finished it looks. If it looks finished I click a tab they have. If it doesn’t work or takes me to an error page then I know it’s fake. Also, if they say their website is under construction, most real reviewers have a finished website if they are presenting it to you. With Instagram, I look at their posts and see if they are private. For me sticky notes are essential to keep me on task and remind me of ideas I’ve had previously. Each have a particular purpose. Some are for urgent tasks, directional ideas, or arrows in a document. What tools do you use when writing?

There are some tools I’ve used to stay out of scammers’ grasp, come back for part 2 and 3. The first thing I notice is how eagerly they pitch me. “ Hello Miss Jaden. I’ve read your heartwarming novel… I would love to work with you to help this beautiful novel be seen… just say yes and we’ll get started.” Real reviewers say something more like, “ hello Jaden, my name is… I review books with your genre. Nothing like the holiday season to keep you distracted. It’s tough to keep up with making and posting videos, posting on my blog and get ready for Christmas and all the different gatherings. I wanted to let you know that life happens and doing your best is enough! Happy Holidays!

Who says we have to write something a certain way? Planned out, scenarios set, place decided. I write and come up with the ideas as I go which I find keeps it exciting. Would you ever try writing like that?

I think everyone has that book or poem they want to write whether it be a fleeting thought or a lasting dream. Question is, who/what cuts the dream short? Is it the English teacher, mom, dad, or someone more personal, yourself maybe. Why don’t you try writing your project with out thinking of the 5 year plan. See where it goes. Book sales are a tough thing to figure out. What kind of post will boost sales? Why do some books fall between the cracks? What role does the author play? Curious.

What’s the vibe of your environment when working on a project? Music, decor, drinks. Cluttered or clean. Now that you’re thinking of your space, how does it reflect you? Do you work best in chaos or are you more of a calm collected worker? Interesting to think about.

What are you passionate about? That’s a hard question for me. What does passion mean? What I enjoy doing, or what gives me gratification? Maybe both. Is it supposed to be a hobby or is it “better” for it to by a career?

Which way do you prefer to write? I like the computer for grammar, spelling, and speed.
